Personal Videos Get More Valuable With Time
Unfortunately.... Videotapes Don't Last!

Did you know your videotapes have an expiration date? With the convenience and
popularity of videotapes, most of us assume our special video recordings are
permanent. But, in fact, they begin to lose information immediately after being
recorded. Imagine this....You go to play the videotape of your wedding or the tape of
your child's first steps. At best, the colors and images have faded and the picture is a
little snowy. Or worse, the picture is unwatchable and the sound garbled.
It's not a
matter of if your videotapes will fail but when.
Preserve your irreplaceable videotapes
by converting them to DVD as soon as possible. If you wait too long to transfer your
videotapes to DVD, they won't be worth saving because of the loss of video quality.

The videotape was not designed to be a long term storage media solution. The
binder material which holds the magnetic particles containing the video data to the
plastic tape weakens over time. This causes the videotape to continually release
it's magnetic information particles. The videotape quality deteriorates and eventually
the tape becomes unplayable. Just playing a videotape can cause additional wear
and tear. The older the tape, the more deterioration that will take place each
time it's played. The older binder material is weaker, so more particles are ripped
away each time it's rubbed by the spinning player heads. All videotape formats
are subject to this decay and will lose their quality over time.

DVDs, on the other hand, have ideal characteristics for the long haul.* DVDs can be
played over and over without losing any quality. The data surface on DVDs is
optical, not magnetic. The surface is protected by a layer of polycarbonate,
the same material used in bullet proof glass. DVD data is digital, so copies are
exactly the same quality as the original. The Library of Congress and National
Archives Service use DVD and CD for long term storage. DVDs are compact and
convenient to use. DVDs make an ideal solution for protecting and enjoying all your
priceless family videotapes. Convert your videotapes to DVD today.

*While DVDs will not wear out from being played, if handled carelessly, DVDs can
be scratched and damaged to the point where they won't play anymore. Always handle
DVDs by the edge, being careful not to touch the bottom surface where the data is
stored. When moving a DVD from the DVD player, always return it immediately to the
protective jewel case.
